Brightstar acquires Next Wireless to elevate consumer confidence in online used smartphone shopping
Brighstar announces acquisition of global used device retailer Next Wireless Group. The company will lead the B2C ecommerce channel for Brightstar’s global sales of used wireless devices and services
MIAMI – June 19, 2018– Brightstar Corp. today announced the acquisition of Next Wireless Group, a global technology company focused on online sales of new and used devices to consumers. Next Wireless will now lead the B2C ecommerce channel for Brightstar’s global sales of used wireless devices and services, utilizing online marketplaces and the Next Wireless sales platform.
With offices in Miami, Dublin and Montreal, Next Wireless currently sells devices in online marketplaces in several countries and is a market leading seller of used devices online in France.
According to Counterpoint Research, the used device market was the fastest growing segment of the smartphone market in 2017, reaching nearly 10 percent of total global smartphone sales. Brightstar is the worldwide leader in the secondary market for used devices, processing approximately 15 million used devices each year through direct sourcing and device trade-in programs.
“The market trend toward the increasing sales of used devices is clear and is only likely to accelerate,” said CEO of Brightstar Corp., Jaymin Patel. “By bringing Next Wireless into the Brightstar family, we will be well placed to lead this market and deliver great value and increased confidence to consumers globally.”
Brightstar will combine its expertise and scale in device collection, reconditioning and grading with Next Wireless’ online sales and marketing know-how to grow international sales while developing an offering that consumers can trust.
“Consumers often don’t know what to expect when purchasing a used device online or are disappointed with the quality of the product received, and this is holding the secondary market back,” said CEO of Next Wireless Group, Warren Barthes. “Combining Brightstar’s rigorous device grading and reconditioning standards with our online expertise creates an offering that is consistent in quality, highly competitive on price, and will transform the secondary market.”
